Final Stage for Tour de Thrift 2012

Around this time last year I posted the first in a series called Tour de Thrift – Maine 2012. It was a way to document the thrift shopping and reselling adventures we were having here in Maine. I’m a little late with this post (so much for resolution #1 – write more frequent blog posts) but hope to share a few thoughts on 2012 and give you a preview of our 2013 plans.

For our final stage of 2012 we had only one store to visit. It was the last Goodwill store in Maine and we wanted to visit before the end of the year. We were heading south out of town for the holidays so we stopped in the Goodwill store in Biddeford, ME.

The Biddeford, ME Goodwill store is in a shopping center on Alfred Street not far from Exit 32 off of route 95. The Sunday we visited was right before the Christmas holiday and we thought the store might be crazy but it wasn’t and we had plenty of goodies to look at. Since our car was already filled with holiday gifts we werent really in the “pickin” mood, but we did manage to find a few neat albums to play on the turn tables we’ve been selling. So if you are in the area or passing by Exit 32 on route 95 head to the Biddeford Goodwill, stretch your legs and have fun shopping.

We use several of the stores we’ve visited during this years tour de thrift as breaks during our long drives. As I mentioned in stage 7 the Falmouth store is really a quick stop off route 295, and the Topsham Goodwill store is easy to visit when your heading off or on 295 near route 1.

Looking back…

It’s hard to believe how much has happened in such a short time. What started as a whim, exploring flea markets and thrift shops in our new home state of Maine, soon became a mini-business both online and off.
We not only took the jump into selling at a group antique shop in Union, Maine, but have been selling at the Thompson Community Center Flea MarketMonstweag Flea Market and of course on this blog. We’ve met so many nice people along the way and really enjoyed learning about the vintage goods we found.  Writing about our journey has been challenging but fulfilling, especially when I get comments on our Facebook page, receive emails or get to meet some of our blog readers in person.

Another highlight for me in 2012 was the honor of guest blogging for Goodwill Northern New England‘s blog!
I even attended the Goodwill Annual lunch in Portland where I sat with several inspiring, fun employees and learned about the good work they and Goodwill are doing.

Looking ahead….

Tour de Thrift 2013 is shaping up to be a busy year with big changes and opportunities ahead. Look for several changes on this blog and perhaps a few surprises.  We’ll continue to share reviews and guides to help you find vintage goods and thrifty bargains. Besides sharing new thrift stores with you we hope to have some fun interviews with collectors and resellers, more in-depth reviews of shops and even a cafe or two.

Stay tuned and thank you for stopping by and joining our adventure. As always if you know of any places we should visit on our Tour de Thrift 2013 be sure to leave a comment here or on our Facebook page.
