The 1870’s barn with its hand hewn beams has three floors packed full of antiques and collectibles. The day we visited the Cove Barn it was busy but not too crowded, so there was plenty of room to wander the aisles and check out all of the unique displays. If you are a collector they most likely have something that you collect! When you first enter the register and jewelry display are up front and manned by the cheerful owner Dave Kelly. He has a wealth of knowledge and is willing to share information about the barn and the goods inside.
The Cove Barn is not the typical drafty antique building with rows upon rows of dark, dusty things. Dave has done a tremendous amount of work restoring the building, creating clean open spaces, organized shelving and lots of good lighting to make shopping a pleasure, but without losing the original character of the barn. And for those of you who love to poke through shelves, and shelves of stuff the 3rd floor will make you happy – it has rows and rows of $1.00 items! Other bargain areas on the third floor include 50 cent magazines, books and a huge area of greeting cards.
The second floor has a variety of antique, vintage vendors with some very nice displays. The Cove Barn almost feels like part museum part antique store, there’s so much to look at. There’s an impressive amount of taxidermy on display along with antique tools, great old advertising signs! Next visit I need to allow more time to browse the loads of books, records and ephemera here. Among the other things spotted on the second floor was glassware, sports memorabilia, salt & pepper shakers (galore!), hunting & fishing, hardware, flowers shop pottery, artwork, lamps, DVD & CD’s, china, drinking glasses and iron skillets.
The Cove Barn Antique Flea Market also has outdoor vendors when the weather permits, so if you’re planning a weekend thrifting and vintage trip to the Harrisburg, PA area keep the Cove Barn in mind. They’re easy to find just 8 miles north of route 81 (Marysville Exit) on Route 11&15.
