Revisiting York, PA
A while back we did a post on some of the thrift shops in York, PA that we visited. Soon after, we heard about several other MUST visit shops, and decided it was time to revisit York, PA.
ReFindings

York, Pennsylvania
(717) 854-7152
Hours: Mon. -Fri. 9-5, Sat 10-5, Sun 11-4
Our first stop was Refindings, York’s Architectural Warehouse. Almost as soon as we got out of the car we happened to meet Lou, one of the owners, who graciously offered to give us the “5 cent” tour. We took off with Lou and explored not only the 6000 sq. ft. 2 story main building, but the buildings in the back and the courtyard, all filled with antiques, vintage, industrial, salvage, mid-century modern, shabby chic, and everything in between. Lou has a youthful energy and a wealth of knowledge about the antique business, so if you are looking for something specific he’s the guy to ask. Plus, he’s just plain fun to hang out with.
Some of the rooms in the complex house other businesses, like Olde York Homes, specialists in historic home restoration and renovation. Circa Antiques, has 4000 sq. ft. of amazing mid century and danish design furniture and accessories. One of our favorite rooms was the one pictured below, where Cool Cat Vintage does a really nice job highlighting the beautiful pieces they have for sale.
Refindings, is a great source for architectural findings, hardware and furniture. Since we’re in the process of buying an old house, in mid-town Harrisburg, PA (more on this soon!), which will be a big rehab project, visiting Refindings was perfect. Having a tour and meeting Lou, made us sure we’ll be back soon for some serious shopping! As with many places we visit, there was SO much to see, my photos really don’t do it justice. If you have some time, head to Refindings in York, PA, it’s well worth the trip.
Redeux
Vintage & Handmade Marketplace
113 South Duke Street
York, Pa 17401
717-850-8063
Hours: Thurs. – Sat. 11am – 7pm, Sunday 12pm-6pm
Just 1/2 mile down the road from Refindings, amidst a hip little neighborhood called Royal Square, you’ll find Redeux (pronounced “re-do”), a marketplace for vintage and handmade goods. This carefully curated shop, offers a stylish variety of repurposed, up-cycled, mid-century home decor, furniture, original jewelry, art and vintage clothing from many local vendors.
Part of a retail renaissance in York, PA, Redeux is housed in the former York furniture and appliance store, which provides a great open, light filled space for shopping.
The folks working at the front counter were friendly, enthusiastic and fun to chat with about the products being sold, the vendors and the York area. Plus, the music playing in the background was great! I love these kind of stores, they showcase local creative folks and the goods for sale are unique and interesting.
More inspiration can be found in the back of the store. Check the little room in the back filled with one of a kind repurposed pieces and mid-century modern finds, like the vintage drawers (seen below) re-done with a Paint-By-Numbers scene. How cool is that?
The vendors at Redeux have a variety of prices, most are fair and there are often sales happening. Love the vintage locker set and envision it providing a bit of vintage flair in any room of our new place.
Whether you’re looking for a fantastic new item for your own home or a gift for someone else, the broad range of creative variety offered at Redeux will help you find just what your looking for. Don’t forget to check them out on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to find out about special sales and events. I’m anxious to return and pick up a few cool pieces I can’t stop thinking about!
56 Urban Provisions
56 S. Duke Street
York, PA 17401
(717) 513-0029
Hours: Tuesday–Saturday, 11am-7pm Sunday, 12pm-6pm
After our visit to Redeux, we were in need of coffee and a snack. Lucky for us, 56 Urban Provisions is located about a half a block away at the corner of S. Duke Street and E. King Street. Although, at the time of our visit they were sparsely stocked, this little modern day general store is headed in the right direction.
Reminiscent of shops we visited in New England and Brooklyn, I’d love to have a little corner market like this in mid-town Harrisburg. The coffee was good and we snacked on some artisanal chocolate and organic spicy pretzels, yummy!
Their website has the same simple, elegant vibe as the store and offers a clever alternative to grocery shopping and menu preparation called “Quick Fix“. For a monthly fee you receive all the fixings for a hearty dish, a salad, and a soup for 4 people, along with step-by step instructions and photos! Perfect for the domestically impaired, like me. Check them out on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
Since we’re still new to the central Pennsylvania area, finding 3 cool new places to shop in nearby York, PA, proved to be a very good day! Hope you get to visit soon and if you do, let us know what you think. Remember shop local and shop small.
Very nice! Just like I remembered it
